Ventoy is a powerful open-source tool that allows users to create a multiboot USB drive, making it easy to install and test multiple operating systems from a single USB device.
This guide will walk you through the process of installing Ventoy on Ubuntu Linux and using it to set up a bootable USB drive with an ISO image.
Downloading Ventoy
Now I’m going to test Ventoy with an Ubuntu Linux installation. I will show you how to install the Ventoy USB multiboot tool on Ubuntu Linux. Go to the Ventoy download page.
Find the Linux version, and click on it.
You will be redirected to the SourceForge website.
When the download is complete, open the folder where the downloaded file is located.
Preparing the Ventoy Folder
Now open a new window and go to the Documents folder.
Here, make a new folder and name it “Ventoy” (you can also use another name).
Open the folder and move the downloaded file here. Then unzip the file.
Launching the Ventoy Graphical User Interface
Open the Ventoy folder, find the VentoyGUI.x86_64
file, and open it.
Type your root password.
Okay, now that we have the Ventoy graphical user interface on our computer, let’s use it.
Installing Ventoy on the USB Drive
Select the USB drive you want to use in the menu.
If you haven’t installed Ventoy before running it, insert the USB drive, press the refresh button, and it will appear. Choose the settings you want, and when you’re done, press “Install.”
Copying the ISO Image
If you do not have an ISO image, search for the desired operating system and download the version you want.
When the download is complete, go to the Downloads folder and copy the ISO image to the Ventoy partition. You can use the drag-and-drop method to copy the ISO image to Ventoy or simply copy and paste it there—the choice is yours.
Restarting and Booting with Ventoy
When you’re done, you can restart your computer and load Ventoy from the boot menu.
Keep in mind that the restart may take longer than normal. Wait patiently for the computer to restart.
Conclusion
Following these steps will allow you to successfully install Ventoy on your Ubuntu Linux system and create a versatile USB drive capable of booting multiple operating systems.
With Ventoy, testing different operating systems becomes straightforward, enhancing your flexibility and troubleshooting capabilities. Enjoy exploring your new multiboot setup!
